I firmly believe in using a personal finance management tool like Quicken to organize your daily financial matters.
Quicken allows clients to see all their financial life in one place.
By categorizing income and expenses throughout the year, it is easy to show the client where their money is going – one of the first steps in creating a budget.
It also greatly simplifies tax planning and preparing tax information for the accountant.
I can also work with you to teach you how to use Quicken and your online banking so that you have greater independence.
Creating and maintaining a budget.
Budgeting is a topic that many individuals avoid because it creates anxiety. But there is a real freedom in knowing how much money you have and where it’s being spent.
Regularly categorizing expenses and income allows the creation of a budget based on your past expenses and your future goals.
Then at regular intervals, financial reports will help you see how accurate the budget is and make any adjustments needed.
Tracking income and expenses.
Working with you to track and categorize expenses and income is fundamental to give you a better idea of how your money is being spent and where it’s coming from.
Reviewing and paying bills.
Paying bills on time eliminates late fees, helps raise your credit score, and keeps your cash flow regular.
It is important to review bills as they come in to check for errors, overcharges, or other irregularities that might suggest fraud.
There are multiple options for bill payment: write a check to be mailed, online bill pay, automated payment from a bank of credit card account. And, of course, it is important to ensure your bank account balance is sufficient to cover the bill payments.
I can create custom reports to show you where your money is going, compare different bills from different months, etc.
Calling vendors regarding incorrect bills.
When a company overcharges you for a service or fails to provide what they promised, you often have to spend a lot of time on the phone trying to make things right. The time and frustration can be overwhelming or cause you to just not address the issue.
With your permission, I can make those phone calls for you. I will act as your advocate and do my best to make things right.
Reconciling bank and credit card statements.
We all know that we should reconcile our bank statements and credit card statements but we often don’t because it takes time and is tedious. However, doing so will help you identify errors or issues before they become a serious problem.
As a routine service, I reconcile bank and credit card statements for my clients’ accounts. This helps me identify overcharges, unnecessary fees, or other issues.
Organizing important documents.
In addition to maintaining a Quicken file for you, I also can organize important documents, such as tax returns, financial statements, medical bills and records, legal documents like wills, passwords for your banking, and much more.
If you so desire, I can scan documents to store on your computer or in a secure online cloud account. This can safeguard documents and reduce the storage space needed.
Reconciling medical bills and medical insurance payments.
I have extensive experience in helping individuals understand their medical insurance coverage, plan for expenses, and reconcile those expenses to ensure they are not overcharged.
I often sit down with clients to review different medical insurance options and projected budgets so they are better equipped to make an informed choice.
Gathering tax information for your accountant.
By regularly categorizing income and expenses and organizing your important documents, tax season becomes much easier. I can work with your tax accountant to provide the necessary documentation or help locate and acquire additional documentation.

Tracking donations and gifts is important for two reasons.
First, it ensures that you know where your money is going and that you are not being taken advantage of accidentally or intentionally.
Second, it may provide you with additional tax savings.
